At the Y, sports and recreational activities are something special for kids. We offer a variety of sports programs to build skills in a supportive environment and promote a healthier lifestyle. Financial assistance is available for all programs. The 2022-23 youth sports season is sponsored by Great Clips.
There’s no better place to learn the game of basketball than where it was invented. Kids who play basketball and engage in healthy competition discover somuch more than their athletic abilities. We encourage kids to challenge themselves as players and people. Volunteer coaches lead players in drills and games designed to develop the fundamental skills of ball handling, dribbling, passing, shooting and defense. Ages 3-4 will have 30-minute clinic/scrimmage sessions on Saturdays. Ages 5-13 practice one night a week and play games on Saturday.
Our fall soccer leagues are coed and strive to support each player at their current level of play and provide opportunities to increase their individual skills. Through participation in practices and games, players learn sportsmanship, how to work as a team and to build quality relationships with fellow players and coaches. Leagues are available for children ages 5-12. Kiddie Kickers program is available for children ages 3-4.
This year we've partnered with Asheville Shield Football Club to serve even more kids and families through recreational soccer. The partnership will bring the two organizations together allowing for more teams in each age and an even better overall experience for players and families.
Participants in coed flag football will learn skill development and football knowledge in a fun and relaxed environment. Our volunteer coaches focus on participation and fun. In our youth flag football league, athletes learn fundamentals such as footwork, ball control, passing, and teamwork. Available for children ages 7-14.
The Y will offer full refunds for programs it cancels. Programs may be canceled if minimum enrollment is not met. Every effort is made to address the program status three business days before the start. Please check your email for updates.
If a participant is unable to complete a session due to medical reasons, the Y will issue a prorated refund if a doctor’s note is provided before the end of the session. Participants who withdraw at least 48 hours before the start of the program may receive a full credit to their Y account to be applied to future programs. Credit is valid for one calendar year.
A participant may withdraw from a program by midsession and receive a credit of 50% on their account to be applied to future programs. Credit is valid for one calendar year. No refunds or credits will be issued after the midway point of a program.
For one-day programs, withdrawal at least 48 hours before the start of the program will result in a system credit to be applied to future programs. Cancellation less than 48 hours before the program will not receive a credit.
Weather-related cancellations: For weather-related program closings, the YMCA will make every effort to make up lost time/missed classes. If the participant is unable to attend the make-up, no individual refunds will be offered. If a make-up is not offered, a prorated credit will be issued to the participant’s Y account and can be applied to future programs. Credit is valid for one calendar year.
