Y Teen Career Club

An afterschool club where teens develop leadership skills and learn about potential careers.

Giving teens a jump start on their careers.

Twice a week, the YMCA Teen Career Club (YTCC) gives students ages 14-18 a place to:

  • Discover strength and build skills
  • Make lasting friendships
  • Develop leadership skills
  • Identify higher education opportunities
  • Prepare for next steps after high school, including college and other opportunities
  • Find and pursue real jobs
  • Learn critical skills to help them compete in the job market

There’s no specific start or end date. Join any time. Participants who meet attendance requirements receive a free Y membership. 


Activities change weekly and may include: 

  • Social time
  • Games
  • Teambuilding exercises
  • Icebreakers
  • Personality tests
  • Guest speakers
  • Q&A with professionals 
  • Networking with peers and professionals
  • College prep

  • Cover letter writing
  • Portfolio creation
  • Job seeking
  • Interviewing

YTTC meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3-6pm. The daily schedule varies from week to week, but here's a brief look at what you can expect from an average club meeting:

  • 3-3:30pm    Free time: Enjoy snacks, hang out with friends, catch up on studies. This time is yours to spend however you'd like.
  • 3:30-4pm    Icebreakers and teambuilding: Connect with your peers while learning leadership and followership skills.
  • 4-5:30pm    Professional and personal development: Engage with activities and speakers to help you learn about yourself and how to use your strengths to build your future. 
  • 5:30-6pm    Free time to spend as you like.

YMCA staff supervise club members, serve as mentors, and share expertise. Group leaders work with the community to plan unique opportunities to benefit individual club members while connecting with others.

  • Professional writing coaches
  • Industry experts

The YTCC’s mission is to hold a safe space for young people. We encourage them to have fun and build a community while they pursue their dreams. The YTCC nurtures ambition and self-betterment.
