Children are like sponges—they watch and absorb knowledge, skills, and values from everything and everyone around them. At the Y, we believe the values and skills learned early on are vital building blocks for quality of life and future success.
That’s why our afterschool and child care programs are staffed with people who understand the cognitive, physical, and social development of kids, the need children have to feel connected and supported in trying new things, and the caring and reinforcement parents and families need to help each other. The YMCA of WNC offers several child care options for busy families.
With a focus on safety, health, social growth, and academic enhancement, Y afterschool programs serve kindergartners through middle schoolers with a variety of programmatic and activity options to explore and develop their interests and talents. We serve Asheville City Schools, Buncombe County Schools, and McDowell County Schools.
Youth Development Centers
Each of our seven YMCAs has a Youth Development Center (YDC) with free drop-in child care for Y members' children, from infants to age 12. Playful, engaging options are plentiful for young children while parents or caregivers exercise or connect with others over shared interests at the Y.
Our Youth Development Centers offer a safe, nurturing environment for children to learn, grow and develop social skills. Our goal is to provide all children with developmental experiences and physical activity during their time here. We take great pride in watching the children grow and thrive.
