Stay cool at the Y
When it’s hot or rainy outside, it’s cool and dry inside the Y. Drop in for a swim, a game of pickleball, or a cup of coffee. Keep reading to learn more about the fitness, fun, and family activities happening at the Y all month long. And be on the lookout for member appreciation surprises at all locations later this month!
YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
Summer fun at day camp
School is out, the sun is shining, and summer camp is in full swing at the Y! Our campers are having a great time exploring, learning, and making new friends. We have a variety of camps for ages 3-16, so there's something for everyone:
- Camp Kiddos: Children ages 3-5 will enjoy a half-day of arts, outdoor play, water safety, and educational activities. They’ll get prepared for a school environment while learning new things and making friends in a fun and safe setting. Sign up here.
- Discovery Camp: Kids ages 5-13 will enjoy new themes each week, fun activities, field trips, games, and outdoor play. There’s something new to discover each week. Sign up here.
- Sports Camps: Designed for ages 5–16, our half-day sports camps let kids learn and enjoy basketball, flag football, pickleball, soccer, rock climbing, archery, and more. These camps focus on building both athletic skills and self-confidence. Sports and ages vary by camp. Sign up here.

Take camp to the next level
Looking for even more adventure? There are still a few bunks available at our overnight camp this summer. Kids will unplug from devices and connect with nature, make new friends, and try exciting activities. Register for YMCA Camp Watia here! Camp fills up quickly each summer, so make plans now for 2026. Returning campers can sign up now, and new camper registration opens Mon., Sept. 1.
Exercise together as a family
Join us on Saturday, July 12 at our YMCA Youth Services Center at Beaverdam in north Asheville for Family Zumba and Family Yoga! This free event is perfect for all ages. Come connect, move, and breathe together from 9–9:50 a.m. Registration is required. Sign up on the mobile app. Go to Asheville YMCA and search “Family Zumba @ Beaverdam” on July 12.
A perfect fit for teens
Looking for a way to keep your teen active this summer? Our free Teen Strength and Conditioning program at the Ferguson Family YMCA is the perfect fit. With guidance from trainers, teens ages 13-18 will learn proper form while building strength, confidence, and healthy habits. Wednesdays at 12-1 p.m. through Aug. 20. Register on the mobile app. Go to Ferguson Family YMCA and search “Teen Strength & Conditioning.”
A super time for all
Join us for a fun-filled Family Night at the Corpening Memorial Y on July 11 from 5:30-8 p.m. We’ll be grilling hotdogs and enjoying an outdoor screening of the movie "Megamind." Come dressed as your favorite superhero if you’d like. Bring your chairs, blankets, or bean bags for outdoor seating. This free event is open to the community.
Check afterschool off your list
Get a head start on your back-to-school shopping by signing up for afterschool childcare at the YMCA. Explore our options and register now to ensure a spot for the 2025-2026 school year.
HEALTHY LIVING
Strive for five
Ready to run your first 5k? Join us for First Finish Line, an 8-week coach-led program designed to help you reach your running goals. Beginning July 17 from 11-11:45 a.m. at the Asheville YMCA, you'll get expert guidance and a weekly take-home training plan to help you cross the finish line with pride. No experience necessary. This program is open to the public. Learn more and sign up here.
Prevent and manage diabetes
Are you at an increased risk for or living with type 2 diabetes? If you're looking for support in making sustainable lifestyle changes like eating healthier, increasing physical activity, managing stress, and more, we’re here to help.
The Y is offering new diabetes support groups at no cost as well as Diabetes Prevention Programs beginning in late summer and early fall. These resources are offered in both English and Español. Contact us by email at [email protected] or call us at 828-209-5012.
Les Mills is "Hot to Go"
Get ready to get moving! We're hosting Les Mills Launch parties all month as we open new Les Mills classes with all new music and moves! This is a great chance for members to learn some moves and try out new classes. No experience is needed for these free member events. Join us to get moving, have fun and, dance it out:
- Ferguson Family Y: July 12, 8:15 a.m.-12 p.m.
- Reuter Family Y: July 19, 8-10 a.m.
- Asheville Y: July 19, 8:15 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
- Woodfin Y: July 25, 8:45-11:45 a.m.
Keeping your mind sharp
Discover new insights about memory loss during this Aging Well Health Chat with Dr. Paul Fletcher of Hopscotch Primary Care. During this educational session, you’ll learn about age-related forgetfulness, early signs of dementia, and tips to keep your brain sharp. This free event is open to the public on Wednesday, July 16 at the Corpening Memorial Y from 3:30-4:30 p.m.
Your best summer starts here
Join us on Thursday, July 17 from 11:30 a.m.-12 p.m. at the Asheville Y for an Aging Well Health Chat with Christina Wojnarwsky, PA-C of Hopscotch Primary Care. Discover simple, practical ways to stay healthy, active, and feeling great all summer long. Bring your questions and join the conversation! This free event is open to all.
Healing through connection
The Black Mountain YMCA is partnering with the Black Mountain Counseling Center to host a support group for all forms of grief and loss. This group offers a space to share experiences, learn new coping skills, gain insights into grief, and find mutual support. The community is welcome to join us on Tuesday, July 15 from 5:30-7 p.m. Childcare will be provided. Learn more here.
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
Work out until 1 on July 4
All YMCA fitness centers will be open until 1 p.m. on Friday, July 4. Services may be limited. Normal hours will resume on July 5.
Get free, fresh food
The Y’s mobile food markets distribute healthy produce, simple recipes, and valuable nutrition information throughout the region. This service is free and open to the public, no questions asked. Find our mobile food market schedules here.

Vest to retire after 30 years of impact
