The YMCA of Western North Carolina today announces a strategic partnership with Hopscotch Primary Care to improve the lives of older adults throughout the region. Hopscotch Primary Care is now the presenting sponsor of healthy aging programming at eight YMCAs in Buncombe, Cleveland, McDowell, and Mitchell counties.

As part of the agreement, Hopscotch healthcare professionals will offer monthly workshops for people ages 65 and up. This demographic, which makes up 20 percent of North Carolina residents and over 30 percent of YMCA members in the region, requires high-quality healthcare tailored to their specific needs, said Dr. Rath Chau, Chief Medical Officer of Hopscotch Primary Care.

“Hopscotch is dedicated to providing personalized care and expanding access for Medicare adults,” Chau said. “This partnership with the YMCA of Western North Carolina, Mitchell County YMCA in Spruce Pine, and the Ruby C. Hunt YMCA in Shelby will help more seniors stay healthy and improve their quality of life.”

The YMCA offers many classes and programs to help seniors stay active, maintain health, and build social connections. Hopscotch-sponsored programs, including talks with healthcare providers, wellness workshops, and social clubs, begin this month at participating YMCAs.

The partnership with Hopscotch Primary Care will add even more value for seniors, said Tim Blenco, COO of the YMCA of WNC.

“We’re thrilled to join forces with Hopscotch Primary Care to enhance our healthy aging initiatives,” said Blenco. “The intersection of Hopscotch’s healthcare services and the Y’s health and well-being programs for this population is a perfect fit. This partnership will help empower our members and program participants to lead healthier lives as they age.”
