YOUTH DEVELOPMENT

A new era of athletes
The game is growing, and so are the opportunities. This fall, the Y is launching the first High School Girls NFL Flag Football program in western North Carolina for girls ages 14–17.

These leagues provide an environment where girls can build confidence, develop their skills, and connect with teammates. With new pathways to college scholarships, elite competitions, and the 2028 Olympic Games, there's never been a better time to take the field.

Looking for more leagues? We also offer co-ed NFL Flag Football leagues for ages 5–13. Find all our options here.

There are more games to play this fall! Registration is now open for youth soccer and volleyball. Young athletes will learn new skills, work as part of a team, and connect with positive role models. Offerings vary by location and date. Learn more here.

Summer fun at camp
Our half-day campers are having a great time exploring, learning, and making new friends! It’s not too late to register your child for a summer of fun. Available options include:

  • Camp Kiddos: Children ages 3-6 are introduced to a structured summer camp with arts and crafts, songs, outdoor play, and basic water safety.
  • Sports Camps: Kids ages 5-13 will learn the basics of basketball, soccer, flag football, and volleyball through drills and games. Perfect for aspiring athletes to play a variety of sports and recreational games. Offerings vary by age and location.
  • Camp Explorers at the Corpening Memorial Y makes learning fun for kids ages 6-12 with a week of activities, projects, and experiments.

All half-day camps run from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Monday-Friday. Financial assistance is available. Sign up here.

Need a camp that lasts all day? Explore our day camps! Kids will connect with the outdoors, continue to learn, and have fun in a safe environment. With a variety of camps for ages 4-15, there’s something for every camper to enjoy. Learn more here.

Take camp to the next level
If you’re looking for even more adventure, there are still a few bunks available at our overnight camp this summer. Kids will unplug from devices and connect with nature, make new friends, and try exciting activities. Sign up for YMCA Camp Watia here!

Teaching skills that save lives
Anyone can drown. No one should. On July 29, the Y recognizes World Drowning Prevention Day as an opportunity to bring awareness and action to water safety. Through our free Safety Around Water program, children are equipped with the tools they need to be safe and confident in and around water. Learn more about this lifesaving program here.

Ready to take the next step in water safety? Swim lessons at the Y teach this essential, lifelong skill to children and adults of all experience levels in a safe environment. Explore our options and sign up here.
