Kevin Young joins Y as VP of Human Resources
Asheville, N.C., March 22, 2022 – Kevin Young has joined the YMCA of Western North Carolina’s senior leadership team as Vice President of Human Resources.
Young, a Hendersonville native, most recently served as Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging and Employee Relations/Diversity and Inclusion Manager for the Biltmore Company. His past experience includes HR management roles at Evergreen Packaging (formerly Blue Ridge Paper and Champion Papers), Southeastern Container, and BorgWarner Automotive.
“As a young child growing up in the South, the Y provided a safe place to play, learn, and grow and interact with other kids from other backgrounds. The exposure to new things and attention that was paid to this young black kid from the wrong side of the tracks helped shape the man I would become. I am thankful to the Y for providing an outlet for me. I am now thankful for this opportunity to serve and give back to the organization,” Young said.
Young’s dedication to the Y continued into adulthood. He served on the Cortland County Family YMCA Board of Directors in Cortland, N.Y., the advisory committee for the local Reuter Family YMCA, and most recently was a member of the YMCA of Western North Carolina’s Board of Directors. In addition, he mentors young professionals in their HR careers and is the varsity basketball coach at Carolina Day School.
“We have greatly appreciated Kevin’s service as a volunteer, and we’re looking forward to his leadership on HR initiatives,” said YMCA President and CEO Paul Vest. “In addition, his perspective and expertise will be invaluable as we continue our journey to becoming an antiracist organization that welcomes and serves all.”
