Governor Extends Phase 2 and Mandates Face Coverings
On June 24, Gov. Roy Cooper announced that our state will maintain the current safer-at-home mandate for an additional three weeks. This means the earliest our facilities could open for indoor fitness is July 17.
As a partner in community health, the YMCA of Western North Carolina continues to prepare to safely reopen, as determined by state and local mandates. Until then, we encourage you to take care of your spirit, mind, and body by joining us for outdoor or online exercise, swimming, and summer day camp options for children of working parents.
The Governor also enacted a statewide mandate on face coverings. Face coverings are now required at all of our facilities. Exceptions to the mask requirement apply to children under 11, those with certain medical conditions, when in one of our pools, and people exercising outdoors where social distancing is possible.
While we’re disappointed not to be resuming indoor fitness, that’s only part of what the Y means to the community. We’ve always been more than just a gym. You help us fill gaps and strengthen community in ways that no other organization can, and our work is needed now more than ever. Thank you for staying with us.
