CFWNC Awards YMCA $40K Grant to Combat Food Insecurity
Asheville, N.C., March 15, 2019 - The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina (CFWNC) has recognized the YMCA of Western North Carolina for its efforts to improve food security with a $40,000 focus area grant. The Y will use this grant money to purchase a new box truck for its Healthy Living Mobile Market.
"Food is such a major factor in community health and by bringing healthy food, practical nutrition education, and strong community partners to families in our region we are starting to see the needle move in WNC," said Cory Jackson, nutrition and wellness director at the YMCA of WNC. "With the addition of a new vehicle, we will be able to help improve the health of families through nutritious food and education for years to come."
The YMCA of WNC currently operates 32 Healthy Living Mobile Market sites each month in Buncombe, McDowell, Madison, Haywood, and Henderson counties.
The Dogwood Charitable Endowment Fund, Matthew Terrence Lee Charitable Fund, John and Janet Garret Charitable Fund, and Biltmore Estate Charitable Fund partnered with CFWNC to fund this grant.
