Y Afterschool is a safe place for children to play, learn, and grow when out of school. Our qualified and caring staff focus on nurturing the development of each child. We provide a place to have fun, make new friends, and become more active.
Children create lasting memories as they engage in a variety of educational and imaginative activities that encourage them to explore who they are and what they can achieve.
The YMCA of WNC is the largest provider of licensed child care in the state of North Carolina, serving more than 1,000 children each school day. The YMCA’s school-age child care programs build self-esteem, values, and leadership skills. We offer North Carolina star-rated, licensed programs designed for grades K-8, based on the YMCA's four core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
Afterschool registration for the remainder of the 2018-19 school year opens Jan. 1. Registration for the 2019-20 school year also opens Jan. 1.

We offer activities that are purposefully designed to boost your child’s confidence, enrich their social and physical development, and encourage self-expression. Our program includes arts and crafts, sports, cooking, adventure, team building, anti-bullying programs, obesity prevention, swimming, group exercise classes, homework assistance, group games, outside play, and more.
We also offer a convenient and cost-saving full-time child care option that includes afterschool care AND summer day camp.
All YMCA school-age child care staff members are certified in CPR, standard first aid, and emergency procedures. Counselors also receive 40 hours of additional training in topics such as conflict resolution, child-abuse prevention, Stewards of Children national certification training, diversity, program development, group management, anti-bullying, team building, and developmental assets.
No matter our age, we are students, too. Continuing education is required of all child care staff to maintain certifications.
